Biography

Professor Feng is currently the Professor and Director at the School of Chinese Medicine, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). At the same time, he is a Principal Scientist in HKU-Shenzhen Research Institute. He is also a Hong Kong Registered Chinese Medicine Practitioner, and a Consultant Physician at The University of Hong Kong-Shenzhen Hospital and Gleneagles Hospital. He also serves as a visiting professor at several universities in Mainland China and overseas. He received his Bachelor and Master education in Chinese medicine in Mainland China. Dr. Feng completed his PhD and Postdoc research in pharmacology and molecular medicine in Japan. His teaching subjects are Pharmacology and Toxicology of Chinese Medicines and Internal Chinese Medicine.   

 Prof Feng’s research interest is focused on the clinical and experimental studies of herbal medicines by using innovative techniques. As PI, he has secured over 30 grants from government, donation, and industry and has engaged in collaboration with scientists from Hong Kong, Mainland China, Macau, Japan, UK, Canada, and USA. He has published more than 500 publications (over 160 SCI papers in which 5 of them IF>20, 13 of them IF>10, 30 of them IF >5 in reputable journals such as British Journal of Pharmacology IF8.739, Cancer Letters IF8.679, Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B IF11.413, Clinical and Translational Medicine IF11.492, Theranostics IF11.556, Science Advances IF14.136, Autophagy IF16.016, Signal Transduction and Target Therapy IF18.187, Hepatology IF17.425 and Molecular Cancer IF27.401 etc.), proceedings and book chapters for exploring scientific and clinical evidence of Chinese medicines in prevention and treatment of cancer and metabolic diseases. Some of his books are national text books. Most of his papers were published in top 1-10% journals in the categories of Integrative & Complementary Medicine, Pharmacy & Pharmacology, Cellular & Molecular biology, and Multidisciplinary Science, and some of which were highly cited. Dr. Feng is listed as one of the HKU researchers ranked world’s top 1% by Clarivate Analytics (Essential Science Indicators, ESI) in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022. His passion in science has brought together excellent young scholars and for now his research team has 6 PhD students and 1 postdoctoral fellow. He has supervised over twenty PhD students and visiting scholars, most of them have secured post from Assistant professor to professor in Hong Kong, Macau and Mainland China.    

Professor Feng has been playing a leading role in school’s administration and professional communities, serving as the member of advisor/expert committees for government committees, professional bodies, and WHO, etc. He also contributes to international academic community as the chairperson at the international conferences and has given keynote, plenary/ invited speeches around the world. He is the editor of several international journals in his field and reviewer for some reputable journals, such as Theranostics IF11.556, Clinical and Translational Medicine IF11.492, Journal for ImmunoTherapy of Cancer IF13.751, Nature Metabolism IF13.511, Advanced Science IF16.806, Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy IF18.187, and Molecular Cancer IF27.401 etc.
