Dr Luk, Tzu Tsun 陸子璡
Dr Kevin Luk is a registered nurse and currently a Research Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, The University of Hong Kong (HKU). He was also appointed as a visiting professor at Dalla Lana School of Public Health, The University of Toronto. His research focuses on devising, testing, and implementing scalable and sustainable interventions for modifying lifestyle risk factors, with a wealth of experience in conducting randomised trials in clinical and community settings. His doctoral study on chat-based intervention for smoking cessation using mobile instant messaging apps like WhatsApp has laid the groundwork for developing similar treatment models to tackle smoking and other lifestyle risk factors. He built and implemented the first WhatsApp chatbot (wa.me/85223328977) in Hong Kong to promote the reach and uptake of smoking cessation services. His expertise in tobacco research is internationally recognised through his appointment as the Associate Editor of Nicotine & Tobacco Research, a prominent journal in the field. Currently, he is leading four competitive external research grants for evaluating advanced digital health interventions for tobacco cessation, alcohol reduction, and gestational diabetes prevention.
Dr Luk has published over 50 articles in international, peer-reviewed journals, including in JAMA Internal Medicine, JAMA Network Open and Lancet Digital Health as a lead author. His research achievements and impact have won him the Faculty Outstanding Research Output Award and the Faculty Knowledge Exchange Award from LKS Faculty of Medicine, HKU, among other accolades.
