AbstractGeoinformation is suited par excellence for distribution over the Internet. It is therefore of great importance to arrive at insight into the growth of both Internet use (consumption) and services (production), especially in emerging economies. This article focuses on geographic aspects of Internet development in the People's Republic of China, where up until recently no such findings had been published; the present author is among the first to do so. Her findings indicate that while Internet production tends to be concentrated in a few dominant areas, consumption shows a clear geographic trend towards dispersion.
