Conference Paper: Exploring the Current Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions of Neuromodulation Methods for stuttering remediation

TitleExploring the Current Applications, Challenges, and Future Directions of Neuromodulation Methods for stuttering remediation
Authors
Issue Date8-Jun-2024
Abstract

Stuttering, a speech impediment involving intermittent disruptions in speech motor control, often necessitates behavioral treatments that focus on adopting new speech patterns to improve fluency, such as rhythmic speaking. Neuromodulation methods have been widely used to enhance treatment for various neurogenic communication disorders. These techniques have recently gained attention for their potential to provide deeper insights into the underlying nature of speech impediments like stuttering and serve as supplementary therapeutic approaches for intervention.

In this talk, I will delve into studies that employed neuromodulation in the examination and treatment of stuttering, including those conducted in my lab, while emphasizing their strengths and weaknesses. Furthermore, I will discuss considerations for future research, such as large-scale clinical trials and individualized treatments, to better understand the potential applications in managing the speech impediment.
