Abstract
  1. World Lung Day 2023 calls for increased global awareness for and action towards better respiratory health, which is particularly relevant for the Asian Pacific region given the burden of disease, large population and socio-economic conditions.
  2. Access to life-saving preventive services like smoking cessation and vaccination, and access to effective health interventions such as oxygen therapy and inhaler therapy for asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease, are still far below World Health Organization standard of 80% availability to patients who need them. Even more concerning is the disproporionate inequity of such health care access for low-to-middle income countries and especially, its impact on children.
  3. World Lung Day 2023 will enable us as individuals and collaborative professional organizations to amplify and advocate for better education, policy changes and research activities to help make a difference across many countries and civil societies.
