Abstract | This paper proposes a non-isolated single-stage single-inductor multiple-output (SIMO) buck-boost derived hybrid converter, which utilizes only one inductor in the power stage to simultaneously supply multiple inductive and resistive loads from a DC input. Unlike its SIMO predecessors, this hybrid converter enables concurrent mixed-mode DC-AC and DC-DC power conversions in which an AC output can be operated in boost mode while the DC output in buck mode or vice versa. It can operate in pseudo-continuous conduction mode (PCCM) without requiring extra freewheeling switches, thus simplifying the overall circuit structure, reducing the component count, and increasing the power efficiency. Due to its high scalability, versatility, efficiency and flexibility, it can serve as a smart hybrid charger for fast and convenient wired and wireless power transfer for Qi-enabled devices with a wider load range. It is experimentally demonstrated that a 10-W prototype of a single-inductor triple-output buck-boost hybrid converter transforms a 12 V DC input into two 14 V (rms) AC outputs in boost mode and a 7.5 V DC output in buck mode. |
