AbstractPopularization of electric vehicles (EVs) can effectively improve energy efficiency, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and therefore benefit environmental quality. Battery charging develops into a necessary daily behavior for EVs like the refueling experience of gasoline vehicles. This paper reviews the state-of-the-art technologies of chargers, architectures and infrastructures available for EVs. Typical charging tools are systematically investigated in terms of on-/off-board configurations, unidirectional/bidirectional power flow, and wired/wireless charging patterns. Wireless direct charging and advanced modulation are significant for maximizing energy efficiency during an entire charging process. Future chargers, architectures and infrastructures will upgrade to meet new challenges, such as fault diagnosis, information communications, and energy interactions to coordinate the energy internet.
