AbstractIn a historically brief period, university teachers supporting learning in campus-based curricula have rapidly responded to the restrictions of on-campus modes resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. Over the past months, many have moved from an ‘emergency remote teaching’ model towards developing online and blended courses. Their creativity and commitment to student learning have been central to these rapid re-designs. Faculty presence is central to engaging and motivating university students in the move to online models. In this talk, I will draw on my experience with designing and researching inquiry-based courses and programmes in professional programmes (Health Professions and Teacher Education). The results of these interactional studies may inform avenues for Humanities and Social Sciences online curriculum designs that can enhance human connection with and between our students to support their achievement of course and programme learning outcomes.
