AbstractWe report on a room temperature lasing by micropillar fabricated by liquid-immersion laser micromachining. A 10.7 um micropillar was written directly on a thin film GaN LED wafer by a nanosecond-pulsed UV laser when submerged in deionized water. Whispering gallery mode lasing was observed from photoluminescence measurement with a Q factor of 176. The Q factor is further improved to 399 by the introduction of a circular grating fabricated using the same technique.
