AbstractTeacher and principal preparation literatures operate as disparate fields structurally, programmatically, and even in scholarship and research. In this review of the literature, we begin to bring these two bodies of literature together to examine how the field of K-12 educator preparation (teacher and principal) frames issues related to race, racism, and education. Using Scheurich and Young’s (1997) five categories of racism in our analysis of the literature, we found both fields focus more on individual than institutional racism and give limited attention to preparing educators to address racism in their practice.
