AbstractThe purpose of this paper is to develop a deeper understanding of the ways in which an urban teacher residency program continues to provide induction support to alumni as they begin their careers. We argue that the easing of the transition from resident to teacher of record has the potential to magnify the impact of residents’ induction experiences. To investigate this transition, we asked, ‘How are teaching residents supported throughout their teacher preparation?’ and ‘What kinds of support do they hope to receive as they begin their induction year?’ We explored these questions through end-of-year teaching resident interviews and anticipate that our results will help us to better support residents as they navigate induction.
