Abstract | This study was set out to investigate how Chao Shao-an Gallery at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum contributed to motivate visitors to learn Chinese painting and calligraphy and fulfilled its education function. The special exhibition entitled ‘Porcelain and Painting’ was selected for this study and visitors were interviewed about their perception after visiting the exhibition. From the respondents' responses, we found the exhibition aroused their interest in learning Chinese painting and calligraphy effectively. Besides, the respondents had experienced something new at different levels, and some of them even got inspirations for their art practice. However, we also found problems like the lack of qualified art talents, systematic teaching methods, and correct recognition still exist in Hong Kong society. Therefore, better cooperation between schools, museums, educators, and learners should be fostered as a remedy. |
