AbstractIn responding to various challenges and Chinese language barrier faced by the ethnic minorities, particularly the preschool children, the authors have development a 'Dynamic Enrichment Learning Mode (DELM)' with tailored made school-based Chinese as a second language curriculum for these young children. It is found that with these children are able to learn Chinese language as effective as their native Chinese counterparts. Their motivation and self-confidence towards learning Chinese language have also been enhanced. This presentation will present the theoretical framework of the DELM and curriculum, as well as the preliminary findings of the research project. The implication of language policy in education will also be discussed.
