AbstractAn experimental investigation into the structural performance of concrete-filled cold-formed ferritic stainless steel square and rectangular sections under combined axial load and bending has been conducted and presented in this study. The experimental programme covers two different sections including one rectangular hollow section (RHS) and one square hollow section (SHS) on ferritic stainless steel grade EN 1.4003. A total of 24 combined loading tests bending about the minor axis was carried out. Two types of concrete with nominal concrete cylinder compressive strengths of 40 and 80 MPa were filled into the tubes. The initial loading eccentricities were carefully chosen in order to cover a wide range of axial load versus bending moment ratio for each section. The experimental results were used to assess the appropriateness of the current European composite structures design code on the predictions of concrete-filled ferritic stainless steel tubes under combined axial load and bending.
