AbstractThe academic profession has experienced significant changes over the past 20 years. The transition from elite to mass higher education, the prevalence of knowledge economics, the introduction of technology allowing hyper-connectivity, and the growth of international academic mobility have precipitated a global convergence of university management practices. As the chapters in this volume show, this has had a profound effect on the academic profession, from which Hong Kong has not been immune.
