AbstractWe investigate modulation instability in optical fibers which opto-geometrical parameters oscillate along the propagation axis. These “topographic” fibers provide an additional degree of freedom leading to multiple modulation instability side lobes. Experimental results are confirmed by analytical and numerical ones.
