AbstractNon-Chinese speaking secondary school students encounter a lot of difficulties when learning Chinese as a second language, especially in learning Chinese idioms. This paper reports the findings of an action research study which applied 'Reading to Learn (R2L)' as teaching strategy, to help non-Chinese speaking students to learn Chinese idioms. The findings indicate that R2L can effectively enhance these non-Chinese speaking students' Chinese language ability, and can learn Chinese idioms more effectively.
