Abstract | The intermittent property of Photovoltaic (PV) system requires some sort of energy storage or supplement to supply the similarly intermittent load demand. This can be achieved by connecting the PV system to the utility grid or to some means of energy storage. When large scale PV systems are connected to the utility grid, it might affect the electrical network stability if not designed properly. An accurate model for forecasting the PV system output would therefore be useful in enhancing the system stability and reliability. This is crucial to the rapidly developing technologies and integrated sources in the smart grid application. This paper will firstly outline the different approaches to model PV system, and try to account for their pros and cons in modelling. Then it will highlight the importance of development of a dynamic model, followed by the methodology in building up the dynamic model. The utilization of the dynamic model for PV systems in smart grid application will be illustrated. |
