AbstractThis paper presents two simple techniques, a tapered feed line and small ground slot, to significantly increase the bandwidth of planar monopole antenna with microstrip-fed. An antenna having a half-elliptical-shaped radiator with a total size of 24£30£0.762mm3 is used for illustration of the two techniques. Results show that, with the use of the two techniques, an extremely wideband characteristic of 3.1-40 GHz can be achieved. Copyright © 2013 The Electromagnetics Academy.
