AbstractThis study aims to provide a descriptive analysis of the writing activity patterns, participation level and interaction patterns of wiki-based first language (L1) and second language (L2) writing groups and identify any similarities and differences between the two groups. Data was collected from a group of Chinese secondary students who wrote on the wiki either using their L1 (Chinese) or L2 (English). Results indicate that while similarities in writing activity patterns and participation level are shown in the two groups, differences do exist in their interaction patterns as affected by the different ways they use the wiki comment sessions.
