AbstractThe three studies in this special issue explore new approaches for analyzing interaction and learning in virtual communities and blended communities, which involve interaction in both offl ine and online settings.All three studies combine content analysis informed by sociocultural theories with methods inspired by social network analysis.This commentary attempts to summarize what has been accomplished and explores and the potential for developing the techniques.
