AbstractA compact and reusable platform-tolerant RFID tag antenna with a novel feed method is proposed. The radiator of this antenna consists of a pair of shorted patches, which can be seen as cavity-backed slot antenna or two PIFA antennas. A small loop pasted on paper is used to connect to RFID chip. With the loop size changing, the input impedance of the antenna can be easily adjusted to match all kinds of RFID chips. This compact tag antenna has a total size of 86 mm by 25 mm by 3 mm and 40 MHz half-power bandwidth. Prototypes have been fabricated and measured. ©2009 IEEE.
