AbstractThe role of numerical noise in ultra large-scale computing is discussed. The numerical noise is proportional to the number of floating point operations that has been performed. It is found that the accumulation of numerical noise is sensitive to the consistency of the definition of the velocity of light. It is expected that subtraction error can play a significant role in a system where a system is ill conditioned or involves subtracting large numbers to obtain small numbers.
