AbstractL929 cell-conditioned medium (L929-CM) has other been used as a source of macrophage colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF). Now, in order to find out whether M-CSF can protect monocytes/macrophages from oxidative injury caused by tert-butyl hydroperoxide (tbOOH), we have investigated the alterations in plasma membrane microviscosity of U937 and J774 cell lines when the cells were incubated with tbOOH in the presence or absence of L929-CM. The results show that L929-CM can protect U937 and J774 cells from the impairment in plasma membrane fluidity caused by tbOOH.
