AbstractThere are a number of contending multiple access methods for the pan-European digital cellular mobile radio system that are currently undergoing trials. The most prominent of these are the S900-D, a narrowband TDMA proposed by ANT/BOSCH/MATRA; the DMS90, a narrowband TDMA proposed by Ericsson; the slow frequency hopping SFH900 of LCT/TRT; the MATS-D, a non-symmetrical system of Te Ka De/TRT; and the wideband TDMA proposed by AEG/SEL/ATR/SAT and known as CD900. The trials are scheduled to end by December 1986 and the radio specification is expected to be announced by CEPT/GSM in February 1987. We discuss the principles of these systems and attempt a limited analysis of their performance under a variety of conditions.
