AbstractFlat-gain polarization-independent operation of a continuous wave fiber optical parametric amplifier (OPA) was demonstrated using two orthogonal pumps, with 15 dB of gain over a 20 nm bandwidth. Analytical expressions were obtained for two-orthogonal-pump OPA. It was found that for a given gain, a fiber OPA with orthogonal pumps exhibited a bandwidth which was less than a fiber OPA with pumps in the same states of polarization.
