AbstractA model for analyzing a multihop packet radio network is presented. It takes into account both the absolute magnitude of the power of the received packet and the power relative to that of other packets which interfere with reception. The probability of correct packet reception is a function of the magnitude of the received power, and the probability of capture depends on the ratio between the received power of the received packet and that of other interfering packets. A network routing strategy is proposed, its performance in terms of average progress is analyzed, and the optimal transmission radius is found.
