Maxstein M. Abuzaid is a Dental Educator and currently serves as Teaching Clinical Practitioner, restorative dental sciences division at Prince Philip Dental Hospital, faculty of dentistry, the University of Hong Kong. He is a visiting scholar at Tohoku University, Japan, Member of the Faculty of Dental Trainers, Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh (RCSEd), Fellow of International College of Dentists, Fellow of World Somatological Institute.
Early 2025, Dr. Abuzaid was awarded the prestigious Teaching Development Grant Award of $240,000 in Hong Kong for his project on portfolio-based learning and clinical assessment in the Faculty of Dentistry. Additionally, He was awarded the Best Case in Aesthetics from the Hong Kong Society of Aesthetic Dentistry in 2024. Previously, worked as program coordinator of HKU Massive Open Online Course in aesthetic dentistry. Dr. Abuzaid received his excellence degree with high honors in dental surgery from Cairo University, since then, he has actively instructed students at Conservative Dentistry Department at different universities.
He is the Founder of Dental Scenarios and an active speaker in various local and international dental events, sharing his clinical passion and experience in restorative and minimal invasive aesthetic dentistry. He is a young key opinion leader for Ivoclar vivadent. Known for his exceptional skills and innovative approach, Dr. Maxstein Abuzaid is committed to mentoring the next generation of dental professionals, imparting his expertise to inspire and cultivate their talents.

| Portfolio-based learning and clinical assessment (PBLCA) offers a comprehensive evaluation method that encompasses students' clinical skills, knowledge, and professional development. PBLCA encourages self-reflection, critical thinking, and continuous improvement, fostering a lifelong learning mindset for professional growth. Furthermore, it enables personalized feed-back and guidance from faculty, promoting transparency and accountability in the assessment process. PBLCA contributes to the standardization and consistency of dental education, providing a clear framework for evaluating student competencies across various institutions and clinical settings. The aim of this workshop is to foster collaboration among academic institutions in integrating a standardized PBLCA into dental curricula, thereby elevating the calibre of dental education. Challenges such as resistance to change, time and resource constraints, training and faculty development will be discussed.
