Dr. Taorui Guan is a Research Assistant Professor at the Department of Law, University of Hong Kong. His research focuses on the establishment of technology markets, the sustainable development of innovative firms, and legal reform in response to emerging technologies. He writes in both Chinese and English. His papers in English have been published in Tennessee Law Review, Journal of Intellectual Property Law, and Berkeley Technology Law Journal. He held the Thomas Edison Innovation Law and Policy Fellowship at the Center for Intellectual Property x Innovation Policy of George Mason University from 2019-2020. He won the John M. Olin Prize in Law and Economics in 2021.
Taorui teaches intellectual property and information technology, copyright law, and Chinese intellectual property law. He also serves as a tutor in an introductory Chinese law course. Taorui earned his S.J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law, where he also obtained an LL.M. During his doctoral studies, he was awarded the Chinese Government Doctoral Scholarship. He received his LL.M. in Intellectual Property Law from Renmin University of China, where he graduated as a Distinguished Graduate and received a National Scholarship for Graduate Students. He received a BA in Business English and an LL.B. from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, where he received the National Scholarship for Undergraduate Students and the First Class Scholarship for two consecutive years. Taorui passed the Chinese Judicial Examination and was admitted to the New York State Bar. He is a member of the Chinese Law Society.
