Professor Schling, Eike
Eike Schling is an independent architect and professor in Architectural Structures at the University of Hong Kong, teaching parametric methods, architectural geometry and structural behavior with the vision of enabling construction-aware design. His research investigates gridshells with repetitive elements considering both geometric parameters and constructive criteria. He completed his doctorate “Repetitive Structures” in 2018 with distinction at the Chair for Structural Design at the Technical University in Munich, and has since held lectures at the ETH in Zurich, the Ecole des Ponts Paris, TU Vienna and KAUST.
His oeuvre as an architect is coined by collaborations with international offices, where he was involved in the design of large-scale projects such as the Munich Airport T2 Satellite with Koch + Partner Architects (2012-2015), the Francis Crick Research Institute, One Bishopsgate Hotel & Residential Highrise and Nova Victoria Office Development in London with PLP Architecture (2009-2012). He has also worked with Auer+Weber+Associates and Donath Bickel Architects in Munich, HPA Architects in Shanghai, Atelier Big City in Montreal and Gerkan Marg and Partners in Berlin.
As an independent architect, Eike extensively uses his computational and geometric knowledge to create new innovative design at all scales. His latest collaboration with Brandl Steel construction has produced multiple innovative gridshell constructions in Munich and Ingolstadt.
