Dr Auer, Stefan
Since August 2013, Stefan Auer has been Associate Professor in European Studies in the School of Modern Languages and Cultures. Prior to this, he held the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Interdisciplinary Studies at La Trobe University, where he worked between 2006-2013. Before then, he was Lecturer (2001-6) and Academic Director (2004-5) of the Dublin European Institute, University College Dublin. His book Liberal Nationalism in Central Europe (Routledge, 2004, pbk 2006) won the prize for Best Book in European Studies (2005) with the University Association for Contemporary European Studies (UACES). He has published articles in Australian Historical Studies, Critical Horizons, East European Politics and Societies, Europe-Asia Studies, Journal of Common Market Studies, Nationalism and Ethnic Politics, Osteuropa, Telos and Transit: Europäische Revue. His latest book, Whose Liberty is it Anyway? Europe at the Crossroads, was published by Seagull Books (2012, distributed by the University of Chicago Press). He also writes occasional commentaries for The Australian newspaper on Europe’s contemporary crisis.
