AbstractThe relationship between the field-induced strain and the composition of the modified PZT ceramics was studied. The results show that the composition that lies both in the rhombohedral, in which the 90°C domain is in a large portion, and also near the phase boundary between rhombohedral and tetragonal has high electromechanical coupling coefficient and hence is beneficial to the realization of large field-induced strain with small delay. Besides, it was also shown that the substitution of proper Sr 2+ ion in the A site and the doping with Bi 3+ and Ta 5+ ions in the A and B sites respectively give a strain (perpendicular to the field) of 0.53% (E=2kV/MM).
