AbstractA closed-form expression for the exact symbol error rate (SER) of space-time block coding (STBC) is derived by means of the moment generating function (MGF) with the equivalent single-input single-output (SISO) model. The performance of STBC over independent identically distributed Nakagami-m fading channels is investigated. The closed-form solutions for the SER of various code matrices with M-PSK and M-QAM modulations as well as the performance analysis results with these expressions are presented, and also, Monte Carlo simulation results are given to demonstrate the accuracy of closed-form solutions. In addition, from the point of view of different modulation schemes, some discussions about the performance of several novel STBC designs are made.
