Abstract21 human hearts were taken from consecutive autopsies at the Queen Mary Hospital. The conducting system was dissected from each and micro-image analysis performed on the sinoatrial and atrioventricular node arteries. The luminal diameter of the sinoatrial node artery was greater than the atrioventricular node artery in all case, which may reflect the fundamental importance of the sino-atrial node in the cardiac conducting system. Examination of a larger sample on which statistical analysis can be performed is warranted on the basis of this study, with emphasis on changes in vessel parameters in specific heart diseases, e.g. ischaemic heart disease.
