AbstractA new class of pulsewidth-modulated zero-voltage-switching multi-resonant converters (PWM-ZVS-MRCs) is presented. Instead of controlling the switching frequency, the output voltage is regulated by controlling the freewheeling period of the resonant inductor, while maintaining constant-frequency operation. This class of converter incorporates the advantages both of PWM converters and of their frequency-modulated counterparts (FM-ZVS-MRCs). Moreover, in contrast to their quasi-resonant counterparts, PWM-ZVS-QRCs, possible parasitic oscillations between the diode junction capacitance and the resonant inductor are eliminated. Simulation of a boost PWM-ZVS-MRC is presented and is verified by experimental results.
