AbstractThis paper is mainly concerned with the implementation of innovative product development-oriented knowledge acquisition in a knowledge grid. The architecture of a knowledge acquisition platform based on the theory of inventive problem solving (TRIZ) and ontology is proposed at first. Then the key techniques analysed are: ontology building for product development, semantic register, semantic parser, query dispatch, and knowledge acquisition based on contradiction matrix. Finally, working scenarios are employed to illustrate the knowledge acquisition process. © IMechE 2008.
