AbstractExamples of trinuclear lanthanide (Ln) complexes using bridging sulfato and hydroxo ligands for Ln = Eu and Tb are reported. Structural data demonstrate that three nine-coordinate Ln 3+ ions are caged in a monomeric structure in [Ln 3(phen) 3(OH)(SO 4) 4(DMF) 3] · DMF · H 2O, with Ln⋯Ln distances slightly greater than 4 Å. The luminescence and excitation spectra have been recorded and interpreted. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
