AbstractSuicide is a public health problem of varying scales in different countries and cities. Over the past few years, the suicide rate in Hong Kong has been steadily rising. This paper explores the unique strategic role of family physicians in suicide prevention, with special reference to the scenario in Hong Kong. Models of conceptualizing and assessing suicide risks were examined. Suggestions on how to actually conduct the assessment interview are presented for discussion.
