AbstractThis thesis presents a comprehensive investigation into the subsurface geological structures and hydrogeological features of Tung Chung River catchment, and Lam Tsuen River catchment of Hong Kong, using the geostatistical modeling techniques. The primary objective of this project involves constructing comprehensive 3D geostratigraphic models for the two catchments mentioned. As well as analyze the subsurface geology of the two catchments, and finally, evaluate model’s applicability on various practical applications including groundwater management, land use planning, and model’s limitations. The combination use of borehole data, shapefiles, and geostatistical techniques including T-PROGS, and SISim were applied for the generation of the heterogeneous stratigraphic models. Comparative analysis on the models generated for the two catchments reveals both similar and different geological characteristics of the two catchments, recommendations on land use and groundwater management have been made based on the models developed. The model developed in this project provides a valuable insight on scenario-based groundwater simulations, and land use planning. Recommendations for future works, including data preparation, model validations, and integration of techniques such as geophysical surveys for better model outputs have been made based on the setbacks encountered during this project.
