AbstractThe effect of laser fields of intermediately high intensity on the inelastic scattering of x-ray radiation below an absorption edge is theoretically investigated. The results obtained suggest a frequency-selective method for the measurement of the length of an ultrafast x-ray pulse by measuring the intensity of an inelastically scattered narrow-band fraction of the x-ray pulse at different delays of the probe pulse of an intense laser. © 1993 The American Physical Society.
