AbstractWe investigate magnetic field amplification by relativistic turbulence using 2D relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations of the interaction between two identical fluids moving with a relativistic velocity and with an inhomogeneous density in the preshock medium. We found that the density inhomogenity distorts the shape of the shock front and leads to turbulent motion in the postshock region. Turbulent motion stretches and deforms the magnetic field lines and creates filamentary structures. The downstream magnetic field is increased significantly by the turbulent motion. © 2010 American Institute of Physics.
