| Abstract | We discuss theoretical arguments and observational evidence for the existence of inward emission in pulsar magnetosphere. We show that the new soft components in the X-ray/UV pulse profile of the Vela pulsar can be interpreted in terms of the inward emission from the same outer magnetospheric regions that are thought to be responsible for the outward gamma-ray emission observed above 100 MeV. In the radio band, inward emission provides a way to interpret the main-pulse/interpulse anticorrelation in B1822-09 as well as the locations of emission and absorption features in the pulse profile of B0950+08. © 2005 American Institute of Physics. |
