| Abstract | This chapter contends with the intuition that preventive exclusion is morally wrong. It considers two questions. First, what is a plausible basis for holding this intuition? Second, what is the extent of its wrongness? It then proceeds to assess two possible views. The first is an autonomy view, the second is an equality view. It rejects the autonomy view, and suggests equality is a more plausible basis for the wrongness of preventive exclusion. It also suggests that while one form of equal relation is unlikely to render preventive exclusion all things considered wrong, those that undermine political equality can plausibly be held to be all things considered wrong. |
