AbstractDisaster Risk Management (DRM) is new to cultural heritage management in Hong Kong. With an aim to protect Chinese temples from typhoon for heritage conservation, a study of their direct and indirect threats in urban areas was carried out. Temple roof which is the most exposed and vulnerable part during typhoon was explored. Recommendations in developing a DRM for Hong Kong local context were given after detailed documentary reviews, field surveys, and interviews with temple management and building technology professionals. Both international guidelines and practices from Japan and Taiwan were investigated in this research.
