Abstract | Objective To evaluate the effect of modified Mulliken method in correcting secondary bilateral cleft lip nasolabial deformity. Methods From October 2020 to October 2022, 15 patients with secondary bilateral cleft lip nasolabial deformity were repaired with modified Mulliken method. They were all patients from the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Department, Hospital of Stomatology, Wuhan University, aged from 13 to 34 (21.3±5.5) years. A periodic review and two-dimensional photos were taken to measure and evaluate various nasolabial parameters. Results Fifteen patients′ nasolabial morphology recovered well after surgery, and the vermilion tubercle (Ls-Sto) and philtrum structure were reconstructed. Ls-Sto increased from an average preoperative thickness of (6.03±2.03) mm to (10.34±3.13) mm. The extremely large columella base (CobR-CobL) was reduced by 22.6%, and the lip peak distance (ChpR-ChpL) was narrowed by 16.0%. There was a significant improvement in the convexity of the philtral ridge and the concavity of philtral dimple. The subjective score of upper lip shape increased from (3.74±0.70) points before surgery to (7.60±0.99) points. Conclusions Modified Mulliken method is effective in correcting secondary bilateral cleft lip nasolabial deformity, and the ideal effects are obtained during a regular periodic review. |
