Abstract | The growing expectations and needs of society, industries, and consumers about the future networks call for further evolution of communication systems to the sixth generation (6G). The main objective of this book titled “Fundamentals of 6G Communications and Networking” is to provide an accessible, comprehensive state-of-the-art treatment of the fundamentals of 6G communications and networking. In this introductory chapter, we describe the intended scope of this book. We first provide a brief overview of the evolution of cellular systems from 1G to 5G. We then discuss what 6G will be, covering application scenarios, demands, and key technologies. We close the chapter with outlining the contents of the remaining chapters of this book. |
