Abstract | An emerging class of 2D semiconductors, so-called metalorganic frameworks, offers intriguing potential as an active element in optical applications. More than a century and a quarter ago, in 1893, the Swiss chemist Alfred Werner laid out the conceptual understanding of coordination chemistry—the study of compounds including a central, usually metallic ion and binding organic group or ligand. |
