Abstract

In today’s data-driven society, the integration of Buddhism with modern science offers a distinctive approach for contemporary individuals to grasp Buddhist concepts. By examining how neuroscience and technology can enhance spiritual growth and psychological counseling, our team has dedicated over a decade to research at the Buddhist Practices and Counseling Science Lab, located at the Centre of Buddhist Studies, The University of Hong Kong. Our studies have focused on mindfulness, meditation, and religious chanting, revealing substantial neurological impacts and psychological advantages associated with these practices. The findings demonstrate that these practices can significantly improve mental health and well-being. By translating Buddhist teachings into the language of science, our work facilitates a broader and more accessible understanding, thus aiding individuals in mitigating psychological stress and boosting overall mental wellness.
