Abstract | The foregut refers to the upper part of the embryonic digestive tract, which further develops into organs such as the esophagus, lungs, stomach, liver, pancreas, and parts of the duodenum. In Hong Kong, foregut surgery, which focuses on treating and researching benign diseases related to the foregut, has relatively mature techniques and advanced instruments. This includes using auxiliary examination methods and pioneering novel anti-reflux surgical procedures, such as robot-assisted hiatal hernia repair and magnetic sphincter augmentation. Currently, scholars across Asia are paying increasing attention to foregut diseases. This article introduces the situation of foregut surgery in Hong Kong to promote academic exchange and cooperation with the international community. The aim is to seek further collaboration in establishing an Asian Foregut Society. The society would share diagnostic and treatment experiences and academic achievements. |
