AbstractA series of substituted 1,8-diarylnaphthalenes, II-X, has been prepared, and the barrier to rotation about the aryl-naphthalene bond has been measured. A monotonic increasing relationship between ΔG* and σpara values has been found. This is interpreted in terms of a through-space polar interaction between the two aryl units. © 1992, American Chemical Society. All rights reserved.
